Many products priced at or below £20 may qualify for Amazon’s reduced Low-Price FBA fulfilment rates. Confirm eligibility and use the applicable fulfilment fee above.
Actual fees can vary by category, dimensions, weight, storage duration, Low-Price FBA eligibility, dangerous-goods status, advertising and other account-specific factors.
Fee data reviewed August 2026. Amazon fees vary by category, size, weight, programme eligibility and account circumstances. Always verify the applicable fee in Amazon Seller Central before making an important sourcing or pricing decision.
What Costs Should an Amazon UK Profit Calculation Include?
Amazon profit is not simply the difference between your selling price and product cost.
Depending on how you sell, you may need to account for referral fees, selling-plan costs, FBA fulfilment, seller-fulfilled postage, preparation, storage, advertising and other product-specific expenses.
The amount remaining after those costs gives you a much more useful picture of whether the product is worth sourcing, how much capital it requires and whether FBA or FBM makes financial sense.

Amazon fees, fulfilment rates and programmes can change. SellerStack periodically reviews the assumptions used by this calculator, but important sourcing decisions should always be checked against Amazon’s current fee information.
How to Use the Amazon FBA & FBM Calculator
Start with realistic numbers for the product you are evaluating. Small differences in selling price, product cost or marketplace fees can become significant when repeated across dozens or hundreds of units.
1. Enter a Realistic Selling Price
Use the price you reasonably expect the product to achieve, rather than automatically using the highest current offer. Consider competing sellers, price history and the possibility that the market changes before your stock sells.
2. Enter Your Product Cost
Include the amount paid to acquire each unit. This could be a wholesale cost, retail-arbitrage purchase, manufacturer price, import cost or another supplier price.
3. Select or Enter the Relevant Amazon Fees
Amazon costs can vary by category, selling plan, product price and fulfilment method. Avoid assuming that one fee percentage applies to every product.
4. Include Fulfilment Costs
For FBA, use the applicable fulfilment cost based on the product’s packaged dimensions, weight and fee band. For FBM, include your actual postage, packaging and fulfilment costs.
5. Review Profit, ROI and Margin Together
A profitable sale is not automatically a strong sourcing opportunity. Consider the pounds of profit, percentage margin, return on invested stock capital and expected selling speed.
Test more than one selling-price scenario
Run the product at your expected price and then again at a lower price. If a modest price drop destroys the profit, the opportunity may be more fragile than the headline margin suggests.
What Amazon Fees Should You Include?
Amazon selling costs are not represented by one universal percentage. The fees affecting a product depend on how it is listed, sold and fulfilled.
Referral Fee
Amazon charges a referral fee when an item sells. The rate varies by category and some categories use tiered rates based on the product price.
Selling Plan
Sellers can currently choose between Amazon’s Individual and Professional selling plans, which use different charging structures.
FBA Fulfilment
When Amazon fulfils an order, a per-unit fulfilment fee can apply based on factors including packaged dimensions, weight and the relevant size band.
Storage & Inventory Costs
FBA inventory can incur monthly storage costs and, depending on circumstances, other inventory-related charges.
Amazon Referral Fees
Amazon states that most UK referral fees currently fall between 8% and 15%, although there are exceptions and category-specific structures.
Some categories also use different percentages at different price levels.
Amazon does not simply “take 15%”
Using a universal 15% referral-fee assumption can materially distort the profitability of products that fall into different categories or price bands.
Check the correct category when evaluating a serious sourcing opportunity.
Category selection affects the economics
Two products with exactly the same selling price and buying cost can produce different profit outcomes if their Amazon referral-fee structures are different.
Amazon Individual vs Professional Selling Plans
Amazon currently offers two main UK selling plans.
| Plan | Current Charge | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | £0.75 per item sold, excluding VAT | Per-unit selling-plan charge plus applicable selling fees |
| Professional | £25 per month, excluding VAT | Monthly subscription plus applicable selling fees |
A Professional subscription is a business-level monthly cost. If you sell many different products, it should not automatically be treated as if the entire £25 belonged to a single unit sale.
Amazon FBA Fulfilment Costs
With Fulfilment by Amazon, inventory is sent into Amazon’s fulfilment network and Amazon handles activities including picking, packing and delivery to the customer.
The fulfilment cost is charged per unit and is affected by the physical characteristics of the packaged product.
Dimensions
Product length, width and height can determine which FBA fulfilment band applies.
Weight
Weight can affect fulfilment pricing and should be based on the product as prepared for fulfilment.
Size Band
A relatively small packaging change can sometimes move a product into a different fulfilment band.
Product Price
Eligible lower-priced products can qualify for Amazon’s Low-Price FBA rate structure.
A product can look attractive based on selling price and purchase cost but become considerably weaker if its packaged dimensions place it into a more expensive FBA fulfilment band.
Amazon FBA Storage Costs
FBA fulfilment fees and storage costs are not the same thing.
Amazon charges inventory storage fees monthly based on the amount of fulfilment-centre space occupied by your inventory.
This makes selling speed part of the profitability decision. A product that sells quickly and a product that remains in storage for months can produce very different final economics even if their original unit margin looked identical.
Profit on paper can still become trapped cash
Slow inventory can create storage costs while tying up capital that could otherwise be used to purchase faster-moving stock.
For a deeper breakdown of monthly storage, Q4 rates, storage utilisation and aged inventory charges, see our Amazon FBA Storage Fees UK 2026 guide .

Other Amazon Costs to Consider
Not every cost applies to every seller or product, but your wider profitability analysis may also need to consider:
- Inbound shipping to Amazon
- Product preparation
- Labelling
- Packaging materials
- Inventory storage
- Returns-related costs
- Amazon advertising
- Removal or disposal fees
- Currency conversion
- VAT where relevant
- Other Amazon programmes or services
Amazon FBA vs FBM: How Fulfilment Changes Your Profit
Amazon sellers do not have to use the same fulfilment method for every product.
With FBA, Amazon manages fulfilment after inventory is sent into its network. With FBM/MFN, the seller remains responsible for storing stock and fulfilling customer orders.
Neither option is automatically cheaper or more profitable.
If fulfilment method is the main decision, our Amazon FBA vs FBM UK 2026 guide compares total cost, sales velocity, product fit and operational workload in more detail.
| Factor | FBA | FBM / MFN |
|---|---|---|
| Inventory storage | Amazon fulfilment network | Seller manages |
| Picking & packing | Amazon | Seller |
| Customer delivery | Amazon | Seller arranges |
| FBA fulfilment fee | Yes | No |
| Inbound shipping | May be required to Amazon | Not an FBA inbound cost |
| Direct order postage | Included within the FBA model | Seller bears fulfilment cost |
| Operational workload | Generally lower per dispatched order | Seller manages fulfilment activity |
Compare the full cost, not just the fulfilment fee
A compact, fast-moving item may work very differently through FBA from a bulky or slow-moving product.
Compare Amazon fulfilment charges against your own storage, packaging, postage, labour and operational costs before deciding which model is economically stronger.
Important Amazon UK Fee Changes for 2026
Amazon introduced several changes affecting the economics of UK products during 2026.
Expanded to Most Products at £20 or Below
From 5 January 2026, Amazon expanded reduced Low-Price FBA rates in most categories to eligible products priced at or below £20.
Amazon stated that newly eligible products saw an average FBA fee reduction of approximately £0.40 per unit.
Lower fulfilment rates can improve the economics for smaller sellers, but the product still needs enough margin and sales velocity to justify FBA. See Is Amazon FBA Worth It for Small UK Sellers in 2026? for the wider decision framework.
1.5% Fuel & Logistics-Related Surcharge
From 17 April 2026, Amazon applies a 1.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge to FBA fulfilment fees in the UK.
This is another reason older FBA calculations should not be relied upon indefinitely.
Amazon also reduced referral fees in several categories and price bands during its 2026 European fee update. Always check the category currently applicable to the product rather than relying on an older spreadsheet or generic percentage.
Amazon Profit Formula
Estimated Profit
Selling Revenue − Product Cost − Amazon Fees − Fulfilment Costs − Other Relevant Costs = Estimated Profit
Profit Margin
Profit ÷ Selling Revenue × 100 = Profit Margin %
For example, if a product generates £6 profit from £30 of selling revenue:
£6 ÷ £30 × 100 = 20% profit margin
Margin is useful, but it should not be considered in isolation. Stock investment, selling speed and downside risk also matter.
Understanding Your Amazon Calculator Results
Estimated Net Profit
The amount expected to remain after the product, marketplace, fulfilment and other costs included in the calculation.
Amazon Fees
The estimated Amazon selling and fulfilment charges generated by the fee assumptions used.
Profit Margin
Shows how much of the selling revenue remains as estimated profit after the included costs.
ROI
Measures the estimated return generated relative to the money invested in purchasing the stock.
Revenue is not profit
£10,000 of Amazon sales does not mean the business earned £10,000. Product cost, Amazon fees, fulfilment, advertising, returns, overheads and other expenses sit between revenue and actual profit.
Worked Example: Calculating Amazon FBA Profit
Imagine you are evaluating a product using the following simplified assumptions.
| Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|
| Amazon selling price | £29.99 |
| Product cost | − £8.00 |
| Illustrative referral fee | − £4.50 |
| Illustrative FBA fulfilment cost | − £3.50 |
| Inbound / preparation costs | − £1.00 |
| Estimated total costs | £17.00 |
| Estimated profit | £12.99 |
In this simplified example:
£29.99 − £17.00 = £12.99 estimated profit
Estimated margin:
£12.99 ÷ £29.99 × 100 ≈ 43.3%
These Amazon fee figures are illustrative only. The actual referral and FBA costs depend on the product category, dimensions, weight and applicable Amazon rules.
Ask how robust the £12.99 profit really is
What happens if the selling price drops to £26.99? What happens if advertising is required? What happens if inventory takes much longer to sell than expected?
A stronger opportunity normally has enough room in its economics to absorb at least some change.
What Is a Good Amazon FBA Profit Margin?
There is no single percentage that automatically makes an Amazon product good or bad.
A Lower Margin May Be More Acceptable When…
- The product sells consistently
- Little capital is required
- Inventory turns quickly
- Pricing is relatively stable
- Operational workload is low
A Stronger Margin May Be Needed When…
- The product sells slowly
- Significant capital is required
- Pricing is volatile
- Advertising is important
- Returns or storage risk is higher
Don’t ask only: “Is this a good margin?”
Ask whether the expected margin is sufficient for the capital, risk, selling speed and work involved in this particular product.
Common Amazon Profit Calculation Mistakes
1. Treating the Referral Fee as a Universal 15%
Referral rates vary by category and can also vary by price band.
2. Forgetting FBA Fulfilment Costs
Strong gross margin can become a much weaker net margin after fulfilment is included.
3. Ignoring Product Dimensions
Packaged dimensions can change the fulfilment band and therefore the cost per unit.
4. Forgetting Inbound and Preparation Costs
Transport, preparation, labelling and packaging can all reduce the final contribution from an FBA unit.
5. Ignoring Storage
Slow-moving inventory can create additional costs while tying up capital.
6. Using Today’s Highest Selling Price
The highest current offer is not necessarily the price your inventory will achieve.
7. Confusing Revenue With Profit
Sales revenue is not the money the business ultimately keeps.
How to Improve Amazon Profitability
1. Improve Your Buying Price
A £1 reduction in unit cost improves the economics of every unit sold. Revisit supplier pricing as order volume grows.
2. Consider Product Size Before Buying
Packaging and physical dimensions can influence FBA costs as much as the product itself.
3. Improve Inventory Turnover
Smaller test orders and better demand research can reduce both storage exposure and the amount of capital tied up in uncertain inventory.
If you already hold inventory, use the SellerStack Stock Turnover Calculator to measure how efficiently stock is converting back into sales.
4. Recalculate When Prices Change
Amazon markets can move quickly. Re-run the numbers when competition, selling prices or fees materially change.
5. Include Advertising
If Sponsored Products or another advertising method is needed to generate sales, that spend belongs in your broader product profitability analysis.

Before You Buy Amazon Stock
Run through this quick sourcing check before committing meaningful capital.
- Have I used a realistic selling price?
- Have I selected the correct Amazon category?
- Have I included the relevant referral fee?
- Have I checked the correct FBA size and weight assumptions?
- Have I included inbound and preparation costs?
- Could inventory storage become significant?
- Have I allowed for advertising where necessary?
- What happens if the selling price falls?
- How quickly is the stock realistically likely to sell?
- Is the remaining return worth the capital and risk?
If several answers are uncertain, research the product further or test with a smaller quantity before committing to a large order.

What is an Amazon FBA calculator?
An Amazon FBA calculator estimates the fees, costs and potential profit associated with selling a product using Fulfilment by Amazon. Depending on the tool, calculations can include product cost, referral fees, fulfilment charges and other seller expenses.
How much does Amazon charge UK sellers?
There is no single Amazon seller fee. Costs can include a selling-plan charge, category-based referral fee and, for FBA products, fulfilment and storage costs. Additional charges may apply depending on the product and services used.
What percentage does Amazon take in the UK?
Amazon currently states that most referral fees are between 8% and 15%, but there are exceptions and tiered category structures. Check the current fee applicable to the individual product.
How much is an Amazon Professional seller account in the UK?
Amazon currently lists the Professional selling plan at £25 per month excluding VAT, plus applicable selling fees. The Individual plan currently costs £0.75 per unit sold excluding VAT, plus applicable selling fees.
Does Amazon FBA include storage fees?
No. FBA inventory is stored in Amazon’s fulfilment network, but inventory storage is a separate cost from the standard per-unit fulfilment fee.
Is FBA cheaper than fulfilling orders yourself?
Not necessarily. FBA and FBM have different cost structures. The better option depends on product dimensions, weight, selling volume, storage, your own fulfilment costs and operational requirements.
What is Amazon Low-Price FBA?
Low-Price FBA provides reduced fulfilment rates for eligible lower-priced products. From January 2026 Amazon expanded the programme in most categories to eligible products priced at £20 or below.
What is the 2026 Amazon FBA fuel surcharge?
Amazon applies a 1.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge to FBA fulfilment fees in the UK from 17 April 2026.
Should I include Amazon advertising in the calculation?
Yes where advertising is needed to generate the sale. Sponsored advertising can reduce the contribution left from each unit and should be considered when assessing the wider profitability of the product.
Should I include VAT in my Amazon profit calculation?
VAT treatment depends on your circumstances, including whether the business is VAT registered and the nature of the particular transaction or fee. Check current HMRC and Amazon information where necessary.
Are SellerStack Amazon calculator results exact?
No. The calculator provides a planning estimate based on the information and assumptions entered or selected. Actual Amazon charges can vary according to category, dimensions, weight, fulfilment method, programmes, account circumstances and future fee changes.
Is the SellerStack Amazon calculator free?
Yes. The Amazon FBA & FBM Fee & Profit Calculator and SellerStack’s other reseller calculators are free to use.
Calculate the Product Before You Buy the Inventory
Amazon FBA can remove much of the day-to-day fulfilment work involved in selling physical products, but convenience does not automatically create a profitable product.
The number that matters is not simply the Amazon selling price. It is what remains after the stock cost, Amazon fees, fulfilment, storage, advertising and other expenses needed to generate the sale.
Calculate before sourcing, test more than one price scenario and leave enough room for fees, competition or selling conditions to change.
