How Much Does PayPal Charge UK Sellers?
For a standard UK domestic commercial transaction, PayPal’s published rate is currently 2.9% plus a fixed fee. For payments received in pounds sterling, the standard fixed fee is £0.30.
Different rates can apply to card-funded guest payments, PayPal Buy Now Pay Later, QR payments, international transactions and merchants enrolled in PayPal’s optional tiered pricing plan.
How PayPal Fees Are Calculated
For many PayPal commercial payments, the fee consists of two parts: a percentage of the transaction value and a fixed transaction fee.
For example, using the current standard domestic UK rate:
£100 Standard UK Commercial Payment
Percentage fee: £100 × 2.9% = £2.90
Fixed fee: £0.30
Total estimated PayPal fee: £3.20
Estimated amount received: £96.80
Current UK PayPal Commercial Transaction Rates
The following rates are based on PayPal’s UK merchant fee schedule reviewed in October 2026.
| Payment Type | Percentage Rate | GBP Fixed Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Standard commercial transaction | 2.9% | £0.30 |
| Card-funded guest payment | 1.2% | £0.30 |
| PayPal Buy Now Pay Later | 3.9% | £0.30 |
| QR payment — £10.01 and above | 1.5% | £0.10 |
| QR payment — £10.00 and below | 2.0% | £0.05 |
How PayPal’s UK Tiered Pricing Works
From 1 October 2026, PayPal offers an optional tiered rate plan for eligible commercial transactions. Merchants must request enrolment and PayPal must confirm that the account has been accepted onto the plan.
| Previous Month’s Eligible Volume | Rate |
|---|---|
| £0–£4,000 | 2.9% + fixed fee |
| Over £4,000 up to £8,000 | 2.4% + fixed fee |
| Over £8,000 | 2.1% + fixed fee |
PayPal International Transaction Fees
Receiving a commercial payment from outside the relevant domestic market can add another percentage-based fee on top of the applicable commercial transaction rate.
| Sender Location | Additional Fee |
|---|---|
| EEA | 1.29% |
| Other international markets | 1.99% |
£100 Standard Commercial Payment From an EEA Sender
Standard rate: 2.9%
EEA international addition: 1.29%
Combined percentage charge: 4.19%
Percentage fees: £4.19
GBP fixed fee: £0.30
Estimated total PayPal fee: £4.49
Estimated amount received: £95.51
Which PayPal Transaction Type Should You Choose?
Standard Commercial Payment
Use this for an ordinary PayPal commercial transaction when none of the specialist payment types below applies.
Card-Funded Guest Payment
This applies to eligible card-funded payments made by a user under PayPal’s payments-without-a-PayPal-account terms.
PayPal Buy Now Pay Later
Use the Pay Later preset for applicable domestic PayPal Buy Now Pay Later transactions. The calculator currently models the published UK domestic rate.
QR Payment
PayPal publishes different QR pricing above and below the £10 threshold. The calculator automatically changes the preset according to the payment amount entered.
How Much Should You Charge to Receive a Target Amount?
A normal fee calculation starts with the amount the customer pays and works out what remains.
Sometimes the more useful question is the reverse:
How much do I need to charge if I want a particular amount left after PayPal fees?
The I Want to Receive field in the calculator works backwards using the selected rate and estimates the payment amount required to leave at least the target net amount after fees.
Target Net Amount: £100
At the standard domestic rate of 2.9% + £0.30, you would need to charge approximately £103.30 to receive about £100 after the estimated PayPal fee.
The calculator works in penny increments so that the result reflects normal GBP transaction amounts.
When to Use the Custom PayPal Fee Option
PayPal’s published standard rates will not describe every merchant account. Choose Custom fee when you know the actual percentage and fixed fee that applies to your account or agreement.
- You have negotiated or account-specific PayPal pricing.
- You are modelling a PayPal product that is not included in the SellerStack presets.
- Your PayPal statement shows a different percentage or fixed transaction charge.
- You want to test the impact of a possible alternative rate.
PayPal Fee Examples for UK Sellers

| Standard UK payment | £100.00 | £3.20 | £96.80 |
| Guest card payment | £100.00 | £1.50 | £98.50 |
| Pay Later | £100.00 | £4.20 | £95.80 |
| Standard payment from EEA sender | £100.00 | £4.49 | £95.51 |
| Standard payment from other international market | £100.00 | £5.19 | £94.81 |
These examples use the current SellerStack presets and are intended to explain the calculation. They do not guarantee the fee PayPal will apply to a particular account or transaction.
PayPal Fee Calculation Mistakes to Avoid
- Using 2.9% alone. The standard calculation also includes the applicable fixed fee.
- Ignoring international charges. Cross-border commercial payments can carry an additional percentage fee.
- Assuming tiered pricing activates automatically. PayPal states that merchants need to request enrolment.
- Forgetting currency conversion. Conversion can create additional cost and is not included in this calculator.
- Using the wrong payment type. QR, Pay Later and eligible guest-card transactions have different published pricing.
- Treating an estimate as an account statement. Your actual PayPal transaction record is the final source for the fee charged to that payment.
